Our first major trip was to Niagara Falls in the summer of 1974.  The poor pictures I took with the cheap camera I had wouldn't do justice to the site.  The other spectacular places we visited was the Grand Canyon and Yosemite.

In May 2006 I invited my friend Tibor from Hungary to California, I took a month vacation and took him around the state from Los Angeles to Sacramento, Sonoma Valley, San Francisco, San Diego and even to Tijuana Mexico.

We made short trips on nice days since late January 2010 to the San Gabriel Mountains, the High Desert, the Sierra Madre Mountains and the local Vazquez Rocks.

Trip to Mount Whitney

On a warm afternoon in early February we hit the road on Highway 14 towards Mount Whitney, the highest mountain in the contiguous U.S. at  14 497 feet or 4 418 m.   We left at 1:00 pm, crossed the Mojave Desert and the Red Rocks Canyon Park, past Owens Lake on Highway 395 and stopped in Lone Pine.  The scenery is exotic and beautiful; sometimes it resembles the surface of the Mars or other alien planet.  Who wants to go there to risk a 2 year trip locked up in a capsule with a possibility of no return that costs billions of dollars when one can find it here on Earth, so close to us?
